Abstract

For the first time, SARS-CoV-2 virus RNA was detected on December 08, 2019 in a patient with pneumonia. On December 31, 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) was notified of several cases of viral pneumonia caused by an unknown pathogen. On January 7, 2020, information about the new virus was confirmed, and the virus itself was classified as a coronavirus. In January 2020, WHO declared an outbreak associated with SARS-CoV-2, and on March 11, 2020, characterized the worldwide spread of the disease as a pandemic. This review touches upon the history of the discovery of coronaviruses, as well as the structure of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
