EMOTIONAL DISORDERS IN MOTHERS OF CHILDREN WITH TOURETTE'S SYNDROME
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to study anxiety disorders in adolescents with Tourette syndrome (TS) and in their mothers. The results of a clinical and psychological study of 27 teenagers suffering from TS at the age of 12 to 15 years and mothers of adolescents from the observed group are presented. The results of the study indicate a significantly higher level of anxiety (both reactive and personal) in the study groups, compared with the control group. In addition, mothers of children with TS were characterized by a high level of alexithymia and a significantly lower integrative level of emotional intelligence compared to the control group. Thus, the found changes indicate the presence of severe emotional disturbances in children with TS and in their mothers.
