Since 1983. He studied at the Military Medical Academy named after S. M. Kirov in Leningrad at the Faculty of training doctors for the Air Force. In 1989, he graduated from the Academy with honors. In 1992. He entered the clinical residency at the Department of Gastroenterology of the Military Medical Academy. In 1994. In the 2nd year of his residency, he defended his PhD thesis.
In 1999. At the age of 33, he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation. From 2000 to 2004, he served as Deputy Head of the Department of Gastroenterology of the Military Medical Academy. In 2004, he was discharged to the reserve of the Armed Forces with the rank of colonel of the Medical Service. He was awarded the medals for" Distinction in Military service " of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd degrees.
From 2004 to 2012, he was a professor at the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases of the St. Petersburg State Medical Academy named after I. I. Mechnikov.
From 2010 to 2011, he was Vice-Rector for Research at the I. I. Mechnikov St. Petersburg State Medical Academy.
Since 2012, he has been working as a professor at the Department of Internal Diseases of the Faculty of Dentistry of the St. Petersburg State Medical University named after I. P. Pavlov, and is the Head of the Course of Gastroenterology.
He is a member of the editorial boards of the leading gastroenterological periodicals in Russia: member of the editorial board of the journals "Experimental and Clinical Gastroenterology", "Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Coloproctology", "Diary of the Kazan Medical School", "Translational Medicine", Deputy editor-in-chief of the Journal "Preventive and Clinical Medicine".
He is a member of the Board of the Scientific Society of Gastroenterologists of Russia, a member of the Presidium of the Russian Gastroenterological Association.
Under the leadership of Uspensky Yu. P., 11 candidate's and 3 doctoral dissertations were successfully defended, and 4 candidate's and 4 doctoral dissertations are being prepared for defense in the near future. Author of 595 printed scientific papers, including 14 monographs, 250 articles in central journals, 4 patents for inventions.
