THE ROLE OF SERUM LIPIDS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF GALLSTONE disease
Abstract
Gallstones is a complex disease, the causes of its occurrence are not fully understood. There are described cholelithiasis risk factors, and the role of the metabolic syndrome in this process. This article presents a review of literature data on the role of serum lipids in the formation of gallbladder stones. We have discussed possible pathogenetic mechanisms, which demonstrate direct and inverse relationships between the development of gallstone disease and fractions of the blood lipid spectrum. The data of published clinical research about the relationship between the content of serum lipids and the risk of cholelithiasis are almost presented. Research data on the effect of cholecystectomy on lipid metabolism are also presented. There are formulated discussion questions requiring further studying for development of optimal methods of management of this category of patients.
