Abstract

The article discuss the most common unresolved issues of the metabolic syndrome, as well as a variety of its manifestations. Different approaches to prevalence assessment, the lack of common diagnostic criteria does not allow an objective assessment. Arterial hypertension is part of the structure of the metabolic syndrome and is one of the most important predisposing factors for the development of cardiovascular disease. Violations of lipid metabolism on the background of insulin resistance lead to the development of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. Some pathological conditions, for example, hyperuricemia, homocysteinemia, elevated levels of C-reactive protein may be a predictor of metabolic syndrome. The article describes the ways of the relationship between metabolic syndrome and some diseases of the gastrointestinal tract - gastroesophageal reflux disease, non alcoholic fatty liver disease and pancreas, cholelithiasis. These diseases are currently considered as gastroenterological clusters of the metabolic syndrome and can be considered as diagnostic criteria.
