Abstract

Currently, an urgent problem that requires close attention is an eating disorder in adults, since the number of patients suffering from eating disorders is increasing every year in developed and developing countries. It involves damage at the psychological, physical, interpersonal, and social levels, as well as significant direct and indirect costs. Eating disorders are mental disorders that primarily impair physical health and disrupt psychosocial functioning. Violations of the adequate perception of one’s own body weight and one’s own diet play a major role in the appearance and support of eating disorders. For several decades, there has been a trend towards an increase in eating disorders, and these diseases are more common among men, the elderly and people with metabolic syndrome. Currently, both the pathophysiology and treatment of eating disorders are poorly understood.
