DENTAL HEALTH OF AN ELDERLY PERSON WITH DIABETES MELLITUS: MYTH OR REALITY?
Abstract
Improving the quality of dental health of people suffering from diabetes is an urgent task of modern world medicine. The aim of the work was to improve the dental health indicators of elderly people suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus by improving the organizational forms of dental care and the use of domestic means of individual oral care. In the course of the work, an analysis of the dental health of 55 elderly women suffering from type 2 diabetes who were under the dynamic supervision of a dentist, as well as 34 women of the same age group suffering from type 2 diabetes who visited a dentist on the appeal was carried out. It is shown that in elderly people suffering from type 2 diabetes, it is possible to achieve good dental health when they are under the dynamic supervision of a dentist with a 2-fold visit during the year, adequately using oral care products. In the vast majority of such elderly people did not need treatment for pathology of hard dental tissues (90.91%), had good individual oral hygiene (hygiene index — 0.88 ± 0.24), remission of periodontal tissue pathology (87.27%) with a satisfactory level of dental care (USP index — 66.24%), unlike older people, suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus, and visiting a dentist on appeal
