Abstract

The main contemporary views due to features of etiology and pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus (DM) including DM in sports are considered in this article. Extensive analysis of modern literary sources on this problem was carried out with comparison of available information on other categories of DM patients. In particular, the peculiarities of current, diagnostics, approaches to treatment in women’s sports are considered. Special attention is paid to problems of drug therapy of DM type 2 in athletes from the point of view of side effects. Data on undesirable pathogenetic effects of recovery of energy resources in athletes without DM with the help of carbohydrates are also given. This way leads to stimulation of gluconeogenesis, insulin resistance, chronic hyperinsulinemia, increase of risk of DM type 2 and cardiovascular risk, especially in persons who have ended up in sports or reduced intensity of loads.
