Abstract
The early and accurate discrimination between bacterial and viral causes of acute infections is the key to a better use of antibiotics and will help slow down the fast-growing resistance to commonly used antibiotics. n the vast majority of cases, this can be achieved by analyzing blood on biomarkers. Comparison of clinical, microbiological data with the analysis of biomarkers can help to identify a patient at high risk of adverse course of the disease, which will allow timely assignment of the necessary treatment.
