Emotional disorders of mothers of children with BHP
Abstract
Breath holding spells of children (BHS) is a common reason for parents to contact a pediatric neurologist. In practical medicine today there is no proper attention to clinical measures aimed at identifying and correcting emotional disorders as an important link in the pathogenesis of BHS. The aim of the research was to study the emotional characteristics of mothers of children with breath holding spells. Materials and methods. The study included 80 mothers of children with BHS. The control group was represented by 40 mothers of healthy children. The Anxiety Assessment Test (by Ch. Spielberger in the interpretation of Y.L. Khanin) was used as the research method as well as the Toronto Scale of Alexithymia and the Assessment of Emotional Intelligence (the method of N. Hall). The results of the study. It was revealed that mothers of children with BHS have a low level of emotional competence in comparison with mothers of healthy children.
