URGENT OPERATIONS ON THE THYROID GLAND IN PATIENTS WITH COMPRESSION SYNDROME
Abstract
97 patients with disorders of the thyroid gland (TG), complicated by neck and mediastinum compression were operated in the Center of the endocrine system organs surgery. All of them admitted for surgery by emergency or urgent indications. There is 0.34% of 28500 patients for 35 years. 31 (32.0%) patients with decompensated cardiopulmonary activity before the surgery were in the intensive care unit. In 11 (11.3%) cases, patients immediately transferred to controlled or auxiliary breathing. Others were prepared for surgery in the surgical department, where the correction of disorders of the respiratory function, circulation, digestion was carried out. During the first day (on urgent indications) operated 31 (32.0%) patients. Other 66 (68.0%) patients were given more complete examination and preoperative preparation because of effective conservative measures. They were carried out the operation during the second or third day. The necessity for urgent and emergency surgery was due to unreasonably prolonged observation and conservative management of patients with thyroid disorders.
