Abstract

In 2016, 95 years have passed since the birth of the Honored Worker of Science of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Vladimir Alekseevich Minyaev. The article presents the most important biographical data, the main stages of professional activity of the outstanding organizer of public health services. From 1966 to 1988, V.A. Minyaev was rector of the First Leningrad Medical Institute after Academician I.P. Pavlov. For this period modern buildings of clinical departments, a sports complex, three hostels for students had been constructed and put into operation. Under the guidance of V.А. Minyaev, 25 candidate and 8 doctoral dissertations were defended, a number of scientific researches devoted to planning and organization of inpatient and outpatient care, the development of compulsory medical insurance, and the formation of a quality control system for medical care were carried out. V.A. Minyaev is the author of 5 textbooks and more than 200 scientific papers, in 1995 he initiated the publication of the annual collection of scientific papers «Urban Health Problems».
