EXPERIENCE OF CITY OUTPATIENT SURGERY CENTER

Abstract

The primary importance of the hand in human life encourages physicians to pay special attention to the prevention and treatment of its pathological conditions. Patients with hand diseases rarely pass medical institutions of the community: some are here to take the whole course of treatment, the others in clinics finish the treatment after their hospitalization. City center surgery was organized on the basis of the clinic number 37 in 1965 by the initiative of a well-known specialist in the field of hand surgery Professor E . V . U soltsev. The Center tasks are to provide specialized consultative and operative assistance to the patients with hand diseases. The center works for the population of St.-Petersburg and Leningrad region. For more than half a century of history there were developed the techniques for the surgical treatment not only of purulent-septic diseases of the hand, requiring immediate medical assistance, but also degenerative diseases of the hand such as constrictive legalentity fingers, de quervain disease — stenosis of the first carpal rear channel,
Dupuytren’s contracture, carpal tunnel syndrome, tenosynovitis of the flexor and extensor muscles of the hand. Tumors and tumor formations of the hand and the consequences of hand injuries are also operated on the basis of the Center, while previously the patient had to go to a round-theclock specialized hospital. This article summarizes the experience of many years of activity of the city center of hand surgery as one of the forms of hospital-substituting technology, that has a high demand among the population of the city and the region.
