Abstract

The article considers the history of the Department of Nervous Diseases of the Daghestan Medical Institute during the Great Patriotic War on the basis of archival materials introduced into scientific circulation for the first time and published documents. The changes that have occurred in the work of the university and the department related to the general situation in the country are noted. The institute briefly interrupted its work, its property from Makhachkala was evacuated to Derbent, and the professors left for Transcaucasia. It was during this period that the period of study at the institute was shortened, and the program for nervous diseases was changed, in which the emphasis was placed on injuries of the central and peripheral nervous system. In addition, there was a significant reduction in the number of teachers, which negatively affected the training of future doctors. The medical work has also undergone significant changes: the number of patients in the clinic has increased significantly, and the staff of the department were forced to provide advice and medical assistance in evacuation hospitals located in Daghestan. All scientific work of the department staff was subordinated to the tasks of wartime. They considered the issues of cranial injuries and related brain injuries, and also paid great attention to injuries of the peripheral nervous system. In particular, Professor Mikhail Dobrokhotov worked out the issues of pathogenesis, clinical picture and treatment of causalgia, which was the leading pathology during the Great Patriotic War. A large part of the time of the department staff was occupied by social work - reading public lectures, drawing up all kinds of documents, as well as participating in editorial commissions that prepared the works of Daghestan doctors for publication.
