Abstract

The article on the basis of the study of archival materials from the collections of the
Russian National Library and the local history Museum of Lomonosov highlights the issue of the
activities of orphanages in the city of Oranienbaum (from 1948 — Lomonosov) in the XIX century.
The main attention is paid to the shelter for recovering children, which was kept mostly at the
expense of the family of Grand Duchess Catherine Mikhailovna. The States of the shelter, the daily
routine, the nature of food and climate treatment are covered. The report of the doctor Schmitz for
1872–1883 which gives an idea of the work of orphanages in Oranienbaum is analyzed and for the
first time introduced into scientific circulation.
