FRANTIC VERA (TO THE 170th ANNIVERSARY OF VERA NIKOLAEVNA FIGNER)

Abstract

The article attempts to touch on the complex destinies of two prominent representatives of public life and medicine of pre and post - revolutionary Russia - Z.G. Frenkel and V.N. Figner. Each of them lived a long life, not without difficulty finally found one’s own place in the life of Soviet Russia, and left behind a significant intellectual legacy. Academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR Z.G. Frenkel - in the field of public medicine, V.N. Figner - in an essential literary work, which reflects her dramatic path as a member of the Central Committee of the «Narodnaya Volya» party. In connection with the 170th anniversary of her birth, the memoirs of contemporaries about this extraordinary and purposeful woman, her role in the revolutionary movement, and her unique personal qualities are presented. There is a lot of literature about the «Narodnaya Volya» party, and about Vera Figner in particular. This article does not pretend to make any significant contribution to this extensive bibliography; the author aims at these jubilee days only to remind the reader of an extraordinary person who left bright and ambiguous mark in the history of our country.
