PARENTS’ OPINION ON THE ORGANIZATION OF PROPHYLACTIC WORK WITH BREASTFED BABIES
Abstract
Achievement of favorable results in maintaining children’s health, reducing morbidity and mortality depend largely on proper organization of prophylactic work with children in their first year of life. On the basis of 3 children’s polyclinics of St. Petersburg, a random sample was used to conduct an anonymous survey of 625 parents of children at the age of their first year, the purpose of which was to evaluate the organization of preventive work with infants. It was established that 8.8% of children were not covered by primary patronage of newborns. During primary patronage the baby’s body weigh was not measured in 77.1% of newborns, an examination of the umbilical wound was not performed in 39.7%, 18.4% were not palpated, and auscultation of the heart and lungs was not performed at 10.5%. Partially or totally in one month of life, 20.1% and 16.2% of children, respectively, were not covered by medical examinations and were not referred to have laboratory, diagnostic and other studies made. Medical coverage in one year was 100%, but 43.9% of children were not examined by an orthorhinolaryngologist, and 14.6% of children were not referred to have laboratory, diagnostic and other studies made. Only 27.9% of children in the first year of life were examined by pediatrician at prescribed time, and 27.0% visited the local doctor no more than 5 times. Thus the assessment of the results of the study showed an urgent need to optimize children’s clinic prophylactic work with children of the first year of life.
