ULTRASOUND IN THE EARLY DIAGNOSIS OF NEUROGENIC TORTICOLLIS IN CHILDREN
Abstract
Neurogenic torticollis is a rare nonspecific symptom associated with pathology of the central or peripheral nervous system of various origins. The lack of awareness among clinicians about the possible neurogenic origin of torticollis leads to late diagnosis of dangerous neurosurgical diseases. Considering the etiological primacy of space -occupying lesions in the posterior cranial fossa and craniocervical region, early diagnosis of this pathology is of particular importance. An affordable, fast and safe method for screening structural intracranial changes is polypositional ultrasound (with an open fontanel - transcranial -transfontanellar, after its closure - transcranial), and for pathologies at the level of the cervical spinal canal - spinal ultrasound.
