Abstract

Background. Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) is a new diagnosis in classifications of mental disorders DSM-5 and ICD-11. Today, there is a large systematic review based on an analysis of 240 literary sources from various searching databases for the period 2013-2020. Purposes and tasks: to summarize the recent literature on ARFID that emerged during 2020-2021. Аfter the release of the aforementioned review. Materials and methods: analysis of PubMed database sources using the search query “Avoidant / restrictive food intake disorder” limited by publication dates 2020-2021. Inclusion criteria: full text publications containing primary empirical data related to ARFID; a study involving persons under 18 years of age diagnosed with ARFID; a study describing the course, treatment, or outcome of the disorder. Results: 120 publications were found for the keyword phrase in the PubMed database for 2020-2021, 31 of which met the established criteria. Found 18 articles on the clinic, 8 - diagnostics, 6 - the prevalence of the disorder, 11 - therapy. Conclusion: in the latest works on ARFID, the possibility of detecting a disorder basing on the proposed diagnostic criteria is continually discussed, and the timing of its onset and duration is compared with other eating disorders. There is a tendency towards a more clear demarcation of acute and protracted forms of ARFID. The consequences of the disease in terms of macro and micronutrient deficiencies have been clarified. The possibility of using the SFQ (Stanford Feeding Questionnaire) technique for ARFID screening and the NIAS scale for rating the severity of the main manifestations of the disease has been proven. The neurobiological features of ARFID in overweight patients are described. The possibility of using antidepressants to manage the associated anxiety symptoms of ARFID is being explored. Within the framework of psychosocial assistance, a new method of supportive parenting for anxious childhood emotions adapted for avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (SPACE-ARFID) was tested, aimed at flexible adaptive strategies of psychological adaptation to deviant food intake of a child with simultaneous modification of parental behavior.
