Abstract

The purpose of the study was to trace the relationship between the severity of various manifestations of autistic disorders, types of education and characteristics of family relationships. Research methods: an adapted Russian version of the method “The Autism Treatment Evaluation Scale” (ATES); questionnaire «Analysis of family relationships» (DIA); “Family Adaptation and Cohesion Scale” questionnaire (adapted Russian version of FACES-III. 45 children were diagnosed with a diagnosis from the “Pervasive Development Disorders” rubric (F 84) aged 3-17 years (Me - 8.00), 34 boys and 11 girls. Most children (38 people, 84.4%), according to the ATES scale, showed mild (range - 31-40 points) or moderate (range - 41-60 points) severity of autistic disorders. The average value of the “Cohesion” scale «By the method of FACES-III corresponded to the fragmented level of family relationships (Me=14.00), the scale of «Adaptation» to a rigid level (Me=16.00), and the general type of family functioning was characterized as extreme. There was no correlation relationship in Spearman between the age of patients, the severity of various manifestations of autistic disorders (ATES scale) and the quantitative expression of family characteristics - cohesion and adaptation (on FACES-III scales) .According to the research on DIA, a significant more frequent prevalence of such characteristics of upbringing as hyperprotection, hypoprotection and indulgence was revealed (contradictory profile). A lower rating score on the “Sensory Skills and Cognitive Abilities” scale was noted with such parenting characteristics as indulgence (p=0.046 Mann-Whitney), excessive prohibitions (p=0.018) and excessive sanctions (p=0.006). While ignoring the needs of children, lower values of the “Socialization” scale (0.042) were noted.
