Use pyrroloqinoline quinone as a neuroprotection drug
Abstract
In connection with the increasing percentage of population affected by neurodegenerative disorders scientists all over the globe are in active search of different solutions to this problem. Researchers consider the use of Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) as a means of neuroprotection to be one of the paths to salvation. This conclusion is based on the results of numerous experiments and, consequently, the studied properties: the ability to induce mitochondriogenesis; expressed as an independent antioxidant activity, and due to the induction of synthesis of superoxide dismutase (SOD); the ability to reduce the level of total and phosphorylated Tau protein; dose dependent effect on the synthesis of neuronal growth factor (FRN) etc. Both clinical and preclinical trials demonstrate the presence of following outcomes - the use of the medication improved motor learning and coordination, memory, spatial thinking, stabilised the emotional state and normalised circadian rhythms. Aim of this study - to analysis existing data on the use of PQQ as means of neuroprotection. Methods - this article reviews domestic and foreign literature on the use of PQQ to normalize cognitive functions. Results: A literature review identified the importance of PQQ studies with the further possibility of including this substance in the register of drugs used for the prevention and treatment of NDD.
