Abstract

This review summarizes information on the main directions of modeling type 2 diabetes mellitus in an experiment on laboratory animals. Particular attention is paid to chemical methods, like: alloxan, streptozotocin, dithizone and steroid diabetes. Surgical methods for inducing insulin resistance have also been described. The positive and negative sides of each of the considered methods are described, their brief description, as well as their value for the specific purpose of the future study.
