Abstract

This article is dedicated to the 135th anniversary of the birth of Konstantin Vla dimirovich Romodanovsky, an outstanding Russian anatomist, a wonderful teacher and founder of the Siberian school of Lymphology. In Omsk, K.V. Romodanovsky (1921– 1931) became one of the first anatomists who laid the foundations of a functional approach to studying the structure of the human body using ontological and phylogenetic principles to explain many patterns of its structure. Special merit of the staff of the Department of Anatomy, headed by Professor K.V. Romodanovsky’s idea was to create first an educational and then a fundamental anatomical museum. In 1931, K.V. Romodanovsky was transferred to Leningrad to participate in the organization of the hospital of the Faculty of Medicine, which was subsequently transformed into the Pediatric Institute (now St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University). In 1932, he was elected head of the Department of Normal Anatomy at the Institute. The basis of the pedagogical approach was education taking into account the age characteristics of the child’s body in close connection between the institute and the clinic. Much attention was paid to X-ray anatomy. In 1948, Konstantin Vladimirovich was appointed head of the Department of Normal Anatomy at the Novosibirsk State Medical Institute (now Novosibirsk State Medical University). From that moment, the real f lourishing of the scientific and pedagogical activities of Professor K.V. Romodanovsky began. Since his arrival, the nature of the educational and methodological work of the department has acquired a pronounced scientific basis. He was one of the first Russian anatomists to introduce animal experiments into morphological practice, applied a functional approach to the study of the lymphatic system and created a new scientific direction — functional morphology of the lymphatic system.
