PECULIARITIES OF CAROTID AND VERTEBRAL ARTERIES PATHOLOGY IN YOUNG PATIENTS. TRAUMATIC INTIMA DISSECTION
Abstract
Traumatic arterial dissections in the neck region are associated with carotid or vertebral artery injuries. Despite a relatively low overall prevalence, they become the most frequent cause of stroke in children, young adults, and trauma patients. This review article discusses the indications for the use of advanced imaging technology in making the diagnosis, defining screening criteria, and selecting antithrombotic therapy for patients with carotid artery dissection to reduce the threat of ischaemic stroke in the young and prevent the prognostically adverse consequence of aneurysm formation.
